Beth El Synagogue | Ponte Vedra, Florida
The project will be constructed in two phases-the first phase comprising an education wing with seven classrooms, a chapel for 100 worshippers, and office/support area. The second phase will include four additional classrooms, additional office / support area, a sanctuary for 350 people and a social hall with kosher kitchens. The first phase is approximately 8,730 s.f. and the second phase is approximately 15,240 s.f. The building is placed at the rear of the site in a peaceful setting among the existing oak trees. Parking will occur in an existing cleared area in front of the building that will be planted with fig trees at regular intervals to obscure the building and cars from the road. The chapel is square in plan with a round dome supported by columns located to reinforce the Star of David floor pattern. The sanctuary, to be constructed in phase 2, faces to the east with a glass wall behind the bimah allowing views of the lake engaged by the building. The social hall is located adjacent to the sanctuary with folding walls that can be opened to accommodate a large number of worshippers for the high holidays. The building is contemporary in style but incorporates many elements of traditional Jewish architecture. The building will be constructed of integrally-colored, textured concrete masonry units.
