Pine Forest Community Center | Jacksonville, Florida
The Pine Forest Community Center was transformed from an old warehouse building with numerous ill planned additions into a state of the art community center. Work consisted of gutting the building, reconfiguring the interior, the site and providing a face lift to the front of the building. The interiors consists of a new multi-purpose room, computer classroom, dining room, kitchen, crafts room, gymnasium, group restrooms and offices all connected via a prominent common foyer. On the exterior, the functional floating walkway covers intersect a tower clearly defining the new entry while adding visual interest to the otherwise flat façade. The windows were subtly recomposed to resolve the exterior proportions and provide natural light to the offices. The parking lot was reconfigured, paved and provides for a covered drop off area. Lush landscaping was added to soften the formerly barren site. A new playground and exterior restrooms were installed for after school and summer school children's programs.
