Intrepid Capital Building | Jacksonville Beach , Florida
Located on Highway A1A just north of Butler Boulevard, the Intrepid Capital Building has become a prominent gateway to Jacksonville Beach. The highly visible building, with its lush tropical landscaping, compliments the park like setting of the entrance to Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Boulevard on the opposite side of the highway. The 11,400 square foot building was designed to take full advantage of the site. The building is composed of concrete masonry towers with punched window openings at the four corners. Glass curtain wall spanning between the towers on three sides provides a transparent contrast to the mostly solid towers. The curved curtain wall glazing on the east side responds to the curve of Highway A1A. The building screens the parking lot to the rear of the site. The circulation, both horizontal and vertical, is on the exterior of the building further maximizing the leasable area and cost effectiveness. Sculptural concrete stairs with ornamental hand rails provide visual interest to the entry facade. Exterior materials are stucco on the towers and fascias with a deep color at the base and a lighter color above. The materials were selected for their contextual relationship with other architecture at the Beaches.
