Field Training Facility | Parris Island, South Carolina The New Field Training Facility is designed to compliment and blend with the historic elements of the Parris Island Main Side Base architecture. The older Main Side Base architecture consists mostly of stately brick buildings with crafted brick details, low slope gable roofs, expressed brick columns and vertically proportioned windows. The design solution is an integration of these historic forms and timeless materials with an economical metal building system. Two different height gable end clear span metal building frames will be constructed to contain separate administration and education functions in each mass. The classroom mass incorporates expressed brick columns and brick corbelling to resolve the proportions of an otherwise monolithic windowless façade. The gables and eaves are richly detailed with a combination of a brick stretcher / rowlock / projected rowlock and soldier courses. A cast metal Marine Corps logo is mounted in the gable end of the façade on axis with the main entry walkway to remind new recruits and visitors of the proud tradition if the United States Marines. To further reinforce this tradition, the motto of the United States Marines, "Semper Fidelis" is cast in metal mounted above the main entry.
