Merrill Road Elementary | Jacksonville, Florida

The design for Merrill Road Elementary School includes a new Classroom Building, a new Media Center, an addition to the existing Cafeteria, various site improvements and remodeling & expansion to the Administration area, existing classrooms and cafeteria kitchen. The new Classroom Building, is oriented perpendicular to the existing classroom wings. Between the new and existing classrooms is a concrete plaza with a covered walkway connecting the classroom wings. One end of this plaza has a covered area for student drop-off. At the opposite end, is the new Media Center. The Media Center is highly visible to passing motorists on Merrill Road. The building has been sculpted with the service areas wrapping around the main reading room. The reading room has a high ceiling with a curved roof structure which relates clerestory roofs of the Classroom Building.
