Multi-Modal Facility | St. Augustine, Florida The Multi-Modal Transportation Center is proposed to be located adjacent to the FEC Railroad tracks running parallel to US 1 and directly across from the St. Augustine Airport. The 2-story, 56,000s.f. building will be connected to a future terminal expansion by a bridge spanning the highway and railroad tracks. The building will serve various modes of transportation including public park-n-ride, Amtrak, local and national bus lines, rental cars and commuter airlines. Traffic circulation is separated to avoid conflict and confusion. The classic form of the building is meant to recall the great turn-of-the-century railroad terminals. The building is organized around a 2 ½-story public lobby space with clerestory windows and a second floor balcony flanking the vaulted roof. The first floor houses offices and services counters for Amtrak, the bus companies and the rental car agencies in addition to several retail spaces. The second floor houses two commuter airline ticket counters with baggage check-in stations, a small public waiting area, retail spaces and a restaurant. Exterior materials will include coquina stone at the base and entries, and stucco to recall the historic buildings in St. Augustine. The curtain wall will be green-tinted and the barrel vault will be clad in copper standing-seam roofing.
